Show-Note Links That Actually Get Approved
The mechanics of turning a podcast mention into a real, editorial link in the show notes.
A mention is good. A mention with a link in the show notes is better — it’s an editorial backlink from a relevant, topical context. But those links don’t happen by accident. Here’s the method we use to earn them cleanly.
Make the link obvious and deserved
The links that get approved are the ones that genuinely help the listener: the exact resource the expert referenced, the company behind an example, the tool that was named. When a brand comes up naturally in conversation, adding its link to the show notes isn’t a favor — it’s good editorial practice. The trick is engineering conversations where your brand is that natural reference.
“What matters is whether it’s relevant.”
— Bradley Benner
Reciprocal, not spammy
Done right, this is a network effect, not a link scheme. Guests reference each other’s work, hosts credit the sources, and everyone’s show notes point to the relevant brands and episodes. Across a network of shows, those reciprocal, on-topic links add up into real authority — the kind you can defend to any client or any algorithm.
The link in the show notes is small. The habit of earning it, across every episode, is what compounds.
